Listener Reviews

Love you Nina!! Redo Edmund Fitzgerald epi plz?!
One of the very best true crime podcasts featuring the most beautiful voice in podcasting (Nina Innsted’s gentle voice sounds like softly falling rain)! “Come with me to a warm night in...” Nina begins each episode with a version of this beautiful, fairy-tale like phrase, “come with me,” inviting us to the time period of each case, but these tales are not happy ones, and Nina tells us these true histories with an empathy and care that is unmatched. “Already Gone” is one of the very best serious true crime podcasts, full stop. Initially Nina focused on cases in Michigan but she has branched out as her life circumstances have changed (she has moved away from Michigan). Nina does not waste time on comedic banter or flamboyant theorizing or attempts to impress us with interpretations of “symbolism” or the other garbage that under-researched true crime podcasts resort to these days. We know that there are far too many mediocre true crime podcasts; Nina’s podcast is superb — insightful. Nina and her podcast have been steadily producing excellent content for years. i have only one request: someday, Nina, could you redo your episode on the Edmund Fitzgerald? I was one of the people who kept begging you to do the Edmund Fitzgerald episode since it’s one of Michigan’s most famous cases, the Captain and his crew deserve to be remembered at every chance, and it seemed to fit with your episodes on Michigan. But I was disappointed by the episode as it seemed very disconnected from the men and their story. It was too rushed and detached. I know it’s a tough subject but their story deserves to be told — and unlike other “true crime” or “disaster” stories very few podcasts have honored the Fitz and her men. You are by far the best candidate!
Addicting
I absolutely love this podcast. I started fromthe beginning. I was looking for a crime podcast that goes straight into the crime. A lot of crime podcasts focus too much on the hosts day to day random conversations not related etc and I don’t particularly like those... SHE GOES STRAIGHT INTO THE STORY. The audio, content, editing got so much better. Not that it wasn’t before. I simply mean I loved watching it evolve. There are many cases I had absolutely no idea about which is so important awareness is key and those victims get to never be forgotten. Her voice is soothing & captivating. Narrating skills are so good, deff should do Audiobooks. I am a fan and strongly recommend.
Awesome podcast
Have been listening to this podcast for well over a year, always quality production. Like others, I think my being from Michigan (now living in Ohio) makes them more relatable.Wish the other commenters would get over the ads issue, you explained what happened and that it was being addressed. Frankly, if I’m being honest, I’m surprised so many actually even pay attention to ads. Am I the only one that disengages from pods for the duration of ads? Or ffwd over them? I can’t be. And while you may have Patreon support, I find it funny that anyone would think that alone pays the bills for time and effort put into investigation and creation of a podcast. It surely does for some true crime podcasts, but for the vast majority - not even close.Keep up the good work, it’s awesome. Also, I hope you can someday dive back into the OCCK case. Just seems like there is so much still there, hiding *just* beneath the surface.
Thanks
For doing your best to keep it apolitical.🙏🏻
Love it
Love this podcast. Only been listening for over a week. Love it. Listen daily to hear them all. Being from Michigan myself its all to good to hear these.
Absolutely wonderful podcast
Nina tells these stories in a way that is incredibly thorough, thoughtful, respectful, engaging, and professional. Hands down one of my favorite podcasts out there.
Is this podcast for BIPOC?
Just heard a biased ad and made me rethink listening to this whole podcast. Sigh... “We can protest but not go to church, vote for a Trump Supporter” this is just disheartening. As a person of color, maybe this isn’t a podcast for me. And looking through the line up, I’m afraid it isn’t
❤️❤️❤️ I love this podcast! ❤️❤️❤️
I have listened to Nina since the beginning and always look forward to the 1st and 15th of the month for new episodes.
One of my favorite
This is one of my favorite Pod Casts. Nina does a fantastic job!
Nina
Her voice is soft and intriguing- Nina does a great job of storytelling and walks you right down the timeline with all details needed to understand what happened. Enjoy listening to her-
Nina Rocks!
Love listening to Ninas voice. Clear and concise and well researched. Thank you Nina!
Varies from episode to episode
I find myself skipping 3-4 episodes before I finally settle on one that I can tolerate listening to. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is, perhaps it’s that the host is quite monotone. The episodes I do get through are good, which is why I’m giving the show 4 stars.
That Voice From Heaven
If you've listened, you know Nina has the kind of smooth, clear, professional voicea Michelangelo might have created. That voice is the main attraction for me in signing up for the podcast. But the podcast itself is nothing to sneeze at, either. Nina is one of the more fastidious presenters--you will never hear a victim belittled. Nina Innsted is the pinnacle when it comes to podcasting, and her cases are absorbing and thoughtfully presented.
Intriguing and addicting
Love this podcast. I’m into true crime and really love listening to these cases. Nina puts in a lot of thought and care to the victims of the crimes.
Newest true crime binge
Love this podcast! I was looking for a new show to binge and I’m so glad I found one! Well written and just enough emotion!
Great Podcast.
Great truer crime to past the time!
I dig it!
I like this podcast because she’s informative, organized, not annoying, and has a clear and has pleasant toned voice. I know this might sound petty but it’s important to me that her voice isn’t like nails down. Chalkboard but she doesn’t fill her bridges between thoughts and sentences with the word “like”. She’ll allow appropriate beats instead. No matter how intelligent a podcast is, if they sound like an 80’s valleygirl it’s a no go for me. I like her style, research delivery, mapping of the storyline, and overall podcast. She could put a little more personality in it so that the listener connects a little more with her on a personal side. But I recommend her for anyone who is a no nonsense kind of listener! Cheers
Awesome podcast
I’ve been listening for years and I LOVE this podcast! As a life long Michigander, I have learned so much about true crime and sensational events in areas I have grown up around. The narrator keeps it interesting but also provides a deep history surrounding each event. I especially appreciate how she gives the victims a voice and dignity. Keep up the good work, I look forward to each new story!!
Great show!
Though I’m not familiar with the areas she describes in various episodes, she provides the kinds of detail (geography, weather, et cetera), that make the story come to life. Her fascination with mystery is obvious and adds to the the overall interest in each episode. I love this show. Nina’s voice is so calming as she tells such terrible tales!
Great Stuff
Terrific musical theme, narration is excellent and well presented! Material is terrific!
Top three!
Already Gone is one of my top three true crime podcasts! I love a single host, story-telling kind of show, and Ninas voice is calming and precise. The details are incredible and I will continue to listen for as long as they keep making episodes. Thank you!
Thank you
Very interesting case than you for all the hard work.
Wonderful!
She is a true story teller. You can hear the caring & empathy she has for the people she is speaking of in the tone of her voice & words that she uses. I would listen to anything she does.MLG
One of the best!
Even if I were not a native Michigander, I would rate this podcast as one of the best in the genre. The research, the writing, the storytelling, as well as Nina’s voice make this one of the best. Woven into the narrative are so many memories of places that I know so well. I continue to be surprised at how many cases I had never heard of, as well as a few that I had pretty close connections to.
