Beautifully reported stories
The host Nina has an incredibly soothing voice (even when expressing justified outrage at some of the cases she covers) and frequently takes on cases new to me, an avid true crime content consumer. Her lens is empathetic and she offers some personal connections to the area and cases she covers (which is always so interesting, I loved her additional information on describing the apartments she grew up in where a case occurred or how adopting her son has given her a touch point to child care case workers). Really enjoying this podcast and appreciate the work that goes into this.
It was Collier's Interview
Nina, I have been an avid listener since I first played your podcast. The fact that, at the end of your interview, Collier Landry said theg "however you deal with your trauma" and included alcoholism and self harm, seemily as okay reactions??? That is UTTERLY heinous.

This podcast episode #188 has triggered a cascade of memories of my hometown of Royal Oak. I recently found the show “Already Gone” and have been thrilled and amazed at the local reference points in each Mi episode to set the stage. “Pop, liverwurst sandwiches for lunch, Woodward Ave, Northwood Shopping Center” etc. and just the right amount of so accurate local nostalgia to made me chuckle. Keep up the great work, Nina and staff. This is the real deal of being born
Excellent true crime coverage
Nina does an excellent job of covering these cases. She does a great job of breaking down the details without all of the fluff. And she has the best story telling voice!
Suggestion
I have been listening to this podcast for a long time. Interesting cases and great host. I was surprised at one point kind of recently, that some changes were made. There is constant low level music in the background I find quite distracting. Drives me crazy. And the new choice of sound effects and music is awful. I don’t understand what all that screechy sound is and the harsh music. Definitely doesn’t go with Nina’s demeanor and beautiful voice. I feel like I’m being jarred out of my seat and find it disturbing. I love the podcast but wish you would consider ditching this new stuff and finding something less distracting and assaulting to the ears. Thanks.
I Love Your Show
Your show is a wonderful piece of work! The Life Stories you tell, your voice and the content of your episodes come together so well! Thank You Thank You Thank You !!!
Wonderful Podcast
I love this show! I fall asleep to it most nights, Nina has a wonderful sleepy voice!
Favorite true crime cast
Good balance of caring and fact-giving. Not too heavy on the former but neither is it like scandal mongering. Interesting details
Like buttah
Great true crime stories and a voice like “buttah”!!
Love your show
I truly enjoy listening to your show. Your research is great and you have a great voice.
My new favorite
I’ve been hooked on true crime podcasts for years now, don’t know how I missed this one. Love Nina’s voice and exhaustive research. I’m binging right now, and am enjoying everyone of the episodes.
So informative
Great style of sharing senseless crimes. Informative and thorough.
Ethics
Trustworthy, compassionate, thorough
Prefer old format
I love the podcast and the narrator and how the stores are told. However, I much prefer the original format without music or sound effects in the background. These added noises are distracting and make it harder to pay attention to what is being said.
My favorite podcast
Nina is awesome!!!! I love how she covers recent and long ago cases. She shows compassion and empathy that is missing from some true crime podcast. Nina sticks to the task at hand, no rambling about her personal life. Every case has its spotlight and the focus is true on the victims.
Best podcast
Love your podcast, very well done I could listen all day while working
Excellent true crime, but distracting music…
I love listening to this podcast: the depth of exploration of all involved is excellent and I’ve especially enjoyed the multi-episode crimes. However, the recent addition of background music distracts from the story and Nina’s great narration. I much preferred older episodes where it was just Nina describing the crime.
Favorite Podcast
Highly recommended! This is my favorite podcast. As a Michigander, living in the Metro Detroit area, I appreciate how Nina accurately describes the setting, crimes, recent updates to the cases, etc. all while showing the upmost respect for the victims and their families. Thank you for highlighting cases from my hometown and the Great Lakes Region. I look forward to each podcast!
Thank you Nina!
I love this Podcast. I love Nina’s soothing voice and she’s such a great narrator. Nina’s compassion and big heart are evident in each and every episode. They are so well done! Thank you so much for all your hard work and bringing this podcast to life. 💕
Great podcast!
I didn’t like this one at first and thought Nina sounded like she was reading a book on tape. But, after listening to a few episodes, I’m a fan! Really great podcast!
Great
Thorough research, great work. Please lose the background music, too loud and very distracting!
I really enjoy this podcast
There at many good things to say about this podcast. It is well researched with much appreciated historical and geographical information, the cases are presented and flow very well. The commercials and sound clips aren’t jarring. Nina is a gifted storyteller and I love that she is about my age. I remember many things and events she weaves into the podcast which is a lot of fun.
Love! But research if you’re going to make medical comments
I love this podcast, it is so captivating! I love learning about Midwest— especially Michigan cases, being as I am from small town Mid-Michigan and now live in suburban Detroit. However, saying “I am not a doctor but…” is not an excuse to say inaccurate information. As a psychiatric PA there are a lot of incorrect statements made that listeners may take as fact even with the preface, that is still misinformation given by the show.
Worth a listen— you’ll love it
Every episode is griping and meaningful. I love how Nina focuses on the victims and families. There is also a lot of episodes to binge :-) On a personal note I am also glad you took a mental health break — I’m not sure if it means much, but this fan is proud of you.
Love!!!
This is my favorite podcast!!
I Love This Podcast
This podcast is amazing. I lovvveeeee Nina’s voice and the clear precise way the facts are presented. The only downside is that lately I’ve been having a hard time focusing on the story with the background music being played. It doesn’t seem to match the story; it’s just a continuous steam of random music. I almost thought it was coming from somewhere else until I paused the podcast. This podcast doesn’t need it.
New format
This is my all-time favorite podcast as I find Nina’s informed soothing presentation outstanding! However, the new music and intro is a big no for me. Please go back to the old intro as I find the new one loud and grating. It is not befitting her gentle voice and empathetic delivery.
Love Nina
First of all, I’d listen to Nina Innstead read a phone book (if phone books still existed). Her voice is so soothing and gentle. She presents the stories well and it’s clear that she is a very empathetic person. Just love her.
Interesting, thoughtful, respectful to victims
Enjoy, gives hopes that these cases may yet be solved. Thnx 💕💕
